The aircraft leasing deal with Indigo’s Turkish Airlines will be canceled after three months. Director General of Civil Aviation i.e. DGCA said on 30 May (Friday) that lease duration with Indigo’s Turkish Airlines is being extended for just three months. After this it will not be extended.
At the same time, DGCA has also asked IndiGo to end the lease agreement with Turkish Airlines. Actually, the Turkas supported Pakistan amidst the situation of war with India.
After which the Turki is continuously being boycot in the country. Meanwhile, the government was also appealed to the government to ban the aircraft leasing deal with Indigo’s Turkish Airlines.
IndiGo sought six months time from DGCA
Because of this, DGCA has decided to increase the lease extension for only three months. However, IndiGo appealed to DGCA to extend the lease with Turkish Airlines for six months.
IndiGo operates direct flights to Istanbul with two Boeing 777 aircraft leased from Turkish Airlines. At the same time, both these aircraft have more than 500 seats.
Not only this, Indigo Turkish also provides codesare seats at more than 40 points in Europe and America through Todasaire Partnership with Turkish airline.
Indigo requests did not agree: DGCA
DGCA said, ‘IndiGo is currently operating two B777-300er aircraft from the Turkish Airline under Damp Lease, which was permission till 31 May. IndiGo requested to extend it further for six months, which has not agreed.
No more extension will be available for operation
DGCA further said, ‘However, IndiGo has been given a three-month One-Time Last and Final Extension by 31.08.2025 for these damp leased aircraft to avoid inconvenience to passengers due to immediate closure of these flights.
The extension is based on this commitment of Indigo that the airline will eliminate the damp lease with the Turkish airline within this extension period and will not ask for any other extension for these operations.
The company will follow all government rules: CEO
Earlier, IndiGo’s CEO Peter Albers said on Friday that the company would follow all government rules related to weight leasing, as the airline is operating the wet-leased aircraft of Turkish Airlines.
Under the weight leasing system, the airline giving aircraft handles the responsibilities like crew, maintenance and insurance. Albers assured that Indigo would make alternative arrangements giving priority to passengers.
On 15 May, the security approval of the Turkay company Celebi was canceled
On May 15, Aviation Security Regulator BCAS canceled the security approval of the Turki company Celebi Airport Services India Private Limited “in the interest of national security.
The step was taken by Türkiye a few days after Turkey supported Pakistan and condemned India’s attacks on terrorist camps in the neighboring country.
