The man befriended the woman on Facebook in 2021 after she was taken to a lodge, where he raped her.
A woman was allegedly raped by a 38-year-old man and then blackmailed into marriage and tortured in the Thane district of Maharashtra, said the police on Tuesday.
The accused had befriended the woman on social media. After the forced marriage, he used hot ‘tawa’ and cigarette buts to burn the woman.
An FIR was filed by the police against the accused along with five other family members, which included his mother. The FIR was filed after the victim lodged a complaint against him, reported news agency PTI.
The accused, who lived in Ulhasnagar, reached out to the victim on Facebook in 2021. Vitthalwadi police station’s official said that the man then took the accused to a lodge where he raped her.
Victim Narrates Her Tragic Ordeal
In her complaint, the 27-year-old victim alleged that she was filmed in an objectionable manner by the accused.
He then threatened the woman with the video and raped her multiple times.
The man later forced the victim to marry him and took her to Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh along with his mother.
However, the atrocities did not stop. The accused, along with his mother, chopped off the hair and eyebrows of the victim and kept her locked inside the house all the time.
The man also burned the victim with cigarette buds and hit her with a hot ‘tawa’ because of which she suffered various injuries on the body.
The victim complained that the accused took her PAN and Aadhaar cards as well as bank passbooks and misused them to get loans.
The accused and his family also asked the victim to demand money from her father if she did not want her video to be uploaded online.
On Sunday, the victim filed a police complaint and a case was filed against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 64 (2) (m) (repeated rape), 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), 87 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc), 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 308(5) (extortion).
The police official said that no one has been arrested in the case so far and an investigation is being carried out.
