Jagmeet Singh’s New Democratic Party (NDP) has 25 MPs. Trudeau was running the government with their support till last year.
America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has several times offered Canada to become America’s 51st state. Controversy is continuously increasing on this issue. After Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie, now Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) leader and MP Jagmeet Singh has also rejected Trump’s offer.
Jagmeet Singh said in a video post on X-

I have a message for Donald Trump. Our country (Canada) is not for sale. Neither is it now, nor will it ever be. Canadians are proud of our country and we are willing to fight tooth and nail to protect it.

On Trump’s threat to impose tariffs, Jagmeet Singh said that if Trump thinks he can fight with us, he will have to pay the price. I believe that if Trump imposes tariffs on us, we should also impose counter-tariffs in the same manner. Anyone contesting for the post of Prime Minister should do the same.
On the fire in California, the NDP leader said that when forest fires are destroying homes in America, Canadian firefighters have reached out to help. We are like that. Always help your neighbors.
Let us tell you that Jagmeet Singh’s NDP party has 25 MPs. Trudeau was running the government with the support of the NDP, but last year the NDP withdrew its support. Due to the break of the alliance, the Trudeau government came into minority.

Trump threatens to impose 25% tariff on Canada
This whole controversy started when Trudeau met Trump in America in November last year. During this meeting, Trump jokingly offered Canada to become the 51st state of America. After this, he has offered Canada several times to join America.
Trump has talked about using financial power for this. He has also threatened to impose 25% tariffs on Canada. Trump says if Canada joins the US there will be no tariffs, taxes will be greatly reduced.

MP met Trudeau in Florida in November 2024 after winning the presidential election. During this time too, Trump had jokingly offered to make Canada the 51st state of America.
Trudeau said – America will also suffer loss
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Trump’s threat of 25% tariff-
If Trump imposes tariffs, he should also think about what effect this tariff will have on the price of steel and aluminum that Canada exports to America.

No American citizen would want to pay 25% more for electricity, oil and gas coming from Canada. I think people need to pay more attention to this. I know that Trump, as a successful businessman, likes to keep people unbalanced.
Trudeau further said- Trump has been elected to make life easier for the American people and to help American workers. These (tariffs) are things that are going to hurt them.

Donald Trump will take oath on January 20 Justin Trudeau resigned as both Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party on January 6. However, Trudeau will remain in this post until the new Prime Minister is elected. On the other hand, Trump will take oath as the 47th President of America on January 20.
