The Supreme Court commented on the freebies case on Tuesday. The court said that the states have money to distribute free food, but not to pay the salaries and pensions of judges. State governments have full money for people who do nothing, but when it comes to the salaries of judges they make the excuse of financial crisis.

The bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih referred to the announcements made in the Maharashtra and Delhi elections. The court said that when elections come, they make promises to implement schemes like Laadli Brahmin. Even in Delhi, some are talking about paying Rs 2100 and some Rs 2500.

This hearing was being held on a petition filed by the All India Judges Association in 2015, in which a demand has been made for improvement in the pension and salary of judges. The case will be heard tomorrow also.

Court said- If the government issues any notification then let us know

On behalf of the Centre, Attorney General Venkataramani said that the government has kept in mind the financial pressure in the new pension scheme. He also requested to postpone the hearing of the case. Rejecting this, the court said that this matter has been pending for many years and if the government issues any new notification then it can inform the court.

The Supreme Court has already expressed concern that the pension rates given to district judges in the country are very low. Such difficulties are not resolved even when district judges are elevated to the High Court.

The salary of a Supreme Court judge is above Rs 2.5 lakh. The salaries of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the High Court and their judges were last revised in 2016. According to the Department of Chief Justice, the monthly salary of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is Rs 2.80 lakh and the salary of his judges is Rs 2.50 lakh.

At the same time, High Court judges get a salary of Rs 2.25 lakh and the Chief Justice gets a salary of Rs 2.50 lakh every month. Supreme Court judges retire at the age of 65 and High Court judges at the age of 62.

All parties in Delhi are announcing freebies…

AAP: Aam Aadmi Party said that if it comes to power again, free electricity, water and Rs 2100 will be given to women every month.

Congress: If voted to power, Congress has promised to provide 400 units of free electricity in Delhi and Rs 2500 per month to women.

BJP: The party has not yet released the manifesto for Delhi, but it is believed that BJP may announce 300 units of free electricity. Also, like Maharashtra, it can promise to give money every month to women in Delhi also.
