An Engineering student was arrested for allegedly killing his parents over differences on his education and career, the police said.

A third-year Engineering student in Maharashtra’s Nagpur allegedly killed his parents after they asked him to quit the course following his failure to pass the exam thrice, the police said.
The accused was identified as Utkarsh Dhakhole who allegedly committed the crime at their residence in the Kapil Nagar area of the city on December 26 last year. However, the incident came to light on Wednesday morning after neighbours got a foul smell, they added.
The deceased were identified as Liladhar Dhakhole (55) and his wife Aruna (55).
Accused Student Arrested
Utkarsh was arrested after the recovery of the decomposed bodies of his parents, following which he confessed to the crime, DCP (Zone V) Niketan Kadam said.
“Utkarsh allegedly strangled his mother, a teacher, around noon on December 26 and later stabbed his father, a technician at a power plant and social worker, to death when he returned home around 5 pm. He then left the bodies there,” the official said.
The police said that the motive appeared to be a dispute over the son’s academic performance.
“Utkarsh failed to clear several subjects during his engineering course. His parents, therefore, wanted him to quit engineering and choose something else. However, he was against their suggestion,” Kadam said.
What Did Accused Do After Murder?
After killing his parents, he took his sister, who is a college-going student and was unaware of the murder, to their uncle’s residence. He lied to his relatives that his parents had gone to Bengaluru to participate in a meditation programme for a few days. He also stayed at the uncle’s place along with his sister, the official said.
As the double murder was discovered, he was subsequently arrested, the police said.
