मेरी कहानी चुराकर बनाई गई थी ‘फना’- एम. एम. फारुकी: साल 1988 में शहादत नाम से लिखी थी फिल्म; शुरू से अपना लिखा हुआ सुनाने का शौक है

M.M. Farooqui aka Lilliput has recently shared some interesting anecdotes about Aamir Khan’s film Fanaa. He told that in the year 1988 he had written a film, whose name was Shahadat Socha. The actor said that we were making the film when we came to know that Aamir Khan’s film named Fanaa had come and its story was very similar to my script.

I wrote the script of Fanaa in the name of Shahadat – Lilliput

During a conversation with Lilliput in The Lallantop, a question was asked whether he regretted not being able to make a film on his written story Shahadat. Responding to which the actor said- I had thought of that story in the year 1988, for the first time I had thought of one line, which I had narrated to Sharad ji. At that time I was interested in becoming a director. I had gone to Russia for the shooting of the film Shikari. There I got 15 days time and during that time I wrote the screen play of Shahadat.

Had sold wife’s jewelery to meet expenses – Lilliput

Lilliput further said- When I came back from Russia, I started writing dialogues for the film. After writing the dialogue, I narrated it to Atma ji, on which he said send it to NFDC. Then I made a complete copy and sold my wife’s jewelery to meet the expenses. Submitted the copy in NFDC. But from there all that came back, after which I also gave up hope.

‘Tried to make the film Shahadat many times’

Lilliput told that he tried many times to make a film based on his written story Shahadat but was never able to make it. When it came time to make the film, we came to know that Aamir Khan’s film Fanaa has been released, whose story is similar to the story of martyrdom.

He told, ‘I met a friend of mine after a long time. He said we will make a film. He was fond of becoming a hero. We just told the title of the film to Naseeruddin Shah and he also agreed to work in this film. After which the auspicious time happened. But due to some reason the shooting of the film was stopped.

The film Fanaa was similar to the story written by me.

Lilliput told- I had gone for a shooting. Where I narrated this story again to a producer and he agreed to make the film. I again worked a little on the script, made some trims and finalized the script. Once again we were about to do the auspicious time of the film. But then the producer called and asked me to watch Aamir’s film Fanaa which has been released. I saw Fanaa, it was similar to my script.

I am fond of narrating what I have written from the beginning – Lilliput

M.M. Farooqui told that from the beginning he had the habit of narrating his writings to everyone. Because of which it is possible that his story may have reached the makers of the film Fanaa. Couldn’t do anything now, once we reached, we reached.

Karan Johar made his debut with the show written by Lilliput.

Let us tell you, Lilliput alias M.M. Farooqui has written many stories, one of the stories written by him was telecast on Doordarshan in the year 1989. This was a children’s show, named Indradhanush. Film producer Karan Johar also made his acting debut as a child artist in this show.
