Riddhima Kapoor had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar on the 100th birth anniversary of Indian cinema showman Raj Kapoor. During this, Riddhima Kapoor remembered the moments spent with her grandfather Raj Kapoor. While sharing some of the best memories of his childhood, he said that grandfather used to cook food for him himself. Parties were often held at the house, but children were not allowed to attend parties.

used to stay with grandfather every weekend

Recalling the childhood moments spent with her grandfather Raj Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor said – We used to spend our time with grandfather in Chembur during weekends. On Saturday, he used to go straight from school to his grandfather and on Monday morning, he used to go to school from there. Grandparents were always happy to have children around, which made the atmosphere pleasant.

was very fond of feeding

The Kapoor family is very fond of eating and drinking. Riddhima Kapoor says- Grandfather was very fond of feeding. The dining table was full of food items. Anyone can eat whatever he wants, but he himself used to eat one egg and very simple food.

used to cook food for us himself

Raj Kapoor loved all his grandchildren very much. Riddhima says- Grandfather used to cook food for us himself. Sometimes I would bring friends too. Grandfather used to go to the kitchen himself and make cheese macaroni with his own hands and also feed us with his own hands.

Whenever any guest came, grandfather used to serve them food with his own hands. Even today, there is a tradition in our house that no guest is allowed to leave without feeding food.

the fridge was full of chocolates

There was no restriction at all on children coming to Raj Kapoor’s room. Riddhima says- There was a small fridge in grandfather’s room. Which was filled with chocolate. Whenever we felt like it, we would go to his room and eat chocolate.

South Indian food was also our favorite

No matter how busy Raj Kapoor was, he used to spend time with his grandchildren on weekends. Riddhima said- Grandfather often used to take us to Big Splash, a club in Vashi, Mumbai.

Had a lot of fun there the whole day. After that grandfather used to take us to Udupi, a South Indian restaurant in Matunga. Enjoyed idli and dosa there.

Also used to visit Planetarium and Ajanta Ellora on weekends.

Riddhima further says – Grandfather used to take us to such places, where along with entertainment we could also learn something. Grandfather also used to take me and Ranbir to see the Planetarium and Ajanta Ellor Caves.

Used to bring suit for Ranbir and tiara dress for me

Raj Kapoor was very fond of Ranbir Kapoor. Riddhima further says- Grandfather loved all the children very much. I remember, whenever he went on an international tour, he used to bring a special dress for us. He used to bring a suit for Ranbir and a special tiara dress for me.

we weren’t allowed to attend parties

Raj Kapoor Saheb was very fond of parties. Riddhima says- There used to be parties at home every day. Some star or the other was always present in the party. We were not allowed to go to those parties because we were children.

So we watched the view from a distance. I was 9 years old and Ranbir was 7 years old when grandfather died. We remember every moment spent with him in our childhood.
