The Maharashtra government has reinstated IPS officer Rashmi Shukla as the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) and chief of the police force. Rashmi Shukla was removed from her post on the instructions of the Election Commission before the assembly elections.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole had demanded Rashmi Shukla’s removal from the post, calling her close to the BJP. After this, Shukla was sent on compulsory leave, while senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Verma was appointed acting DGP in his place.
After the announcement of election results and completion of the electoral process on November 23, the government canceled Shukla’s compulsory leave and directed him to resume his duties as DGP.

Bail granted to Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of former minister Partha Chatterjee, in West Bengal teacher recruitment scam.

The Special Enforcement Directorate (ED) court of West Bengal on Monday granted bail to Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of former state minister Partha Chatterjee, in the teacher recruitment scam case. The ED had arrested Mukherjee in July 2022 and accused him of being a close associate of Chatterjee. Partha Chatterjee was already in custody.
Mukherjee had sought bail by filing a bail petition in the ED court. However, the ED opposed this and said that the case is still under investigation, and granting bail could hamper the investigation. The court has granted bail to Arpita Mukherjee on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh, but the court has put a condition that she will not go beyond the territorial limits of Kolkata Police.
