The condition of girls is the worst among children who do not go to school.
Neighbouring country Pakistan is facing a serious education crisis along with the economic crisis. In Pakistan, approximately 2.53 crore children between the ages of 5 and 16 are not going to school. This figure is 36% of the country’s total school-going population. The worst situation is in rural areas.
This has been revealed in a report titled ‘The Missing Third of Pakistan’. This report has been prepared by the Pak Alliance for Maths and Science on the basis of the 2023 census data. This report has focused on the shocking situation of ‘children out of school in Pakistan’ (OOSC).
The report has highlighted the major flaws in Pakistan’s education system. It states that 74% of Pakistan’s children live in rural areas. In these areas, due to lack of access to schools, poverty and social problems, there are difficulties in bringing children to school.
Among the children not going to school, 1.88 crore are from rural areas. This is increasing the gap between rural and urban education rates.
Children between 5 and 9 years of age are most affected The report shows that children between 5 and 9 years of age are facing the most education crisis. 51% of them never took admission in school. At the same time, about 50% of the children have dropped out of school or are not going to school now. According to the report, this education crisis will have a long-term impact on Pakistan’s literacy rate.
On the other hand, a major reason for delay in admission in rural areas is the economic conditions due to which children are unable to go to school. At the same time, the gender ratio is increasing this problem further. The report states that 53% of those who do not go to school are girls. This problem is bigger in rural areas. Here the female literacy rate is already low.
Pakistan ranks second in the world in terms of the number of children not attending school.
80% of girls in rural areas have never attended school The report revealed that 80% of girls aged 5 to 16 in rural Pakistan never attended school. This figure reflects gender inequality in the education system. This problem is also seen in urban areas, which are often considered better in terms of education.
Big cities like Karachi and Lahore have better resources for education because they are capital cities. Still, the number of children not going to school is high in these cities. In Karachi, 18 lakh children are not enrolled in school. This shows how big this problem is.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan had declared this issue an emergency in early May. However, no concrete steps have been taken so far.

Syed Mustafa said, “30 years ago, our neighbor India taught its children what is in demand all over the world today. Today the CEOs of the top 25 companies are Indians.
