The trend of having more children has increased among rich families of America. For them it is a sign of status. According to an Axios report, nearly half of America’s richest 1% families have three or more children. At the same time, families with three children in the low income group are about 40 to 43%. In America, a family spends crores of rupees on raising a child for 18 years. It is almost impossible for a middle class family to pay this much amount in this era of inflation. The trend of having more children among the rich has been going on since the 90s. According to the report released, the trend of having more children among the richest families of America has been going on since the 1990s. But this trend is decreasing in low earning families. This means that despite the increasing cost of raising children, rich families are having large families as before. Economist Mike Konzal says that for rich families, the third child has become a status symbol. According to him, inflation and the rising cost of raising children are forcing ordinary families to have fewer children, but it does not affect the richest 1% of families that much. Middle class families have to balance their income between house rent, bills, savings and the needs of their children. The burden of these expenses increases further when a third child is born. 15 lakh rupees have to be spent on children every year. According to the report of American company LendingTree, an average of ₹ 3 crore is spent in raising a child in America from birth to the age of 18 years. Accordingly, approximately Rs 15 lakh has to be spent every year. This includes expenses like food, housing, transportation, health insurance and care of the child. However, this is an average estimate. Every family’s expenses may vary depending on its income, living space and children’s needs. The highest expenditure occurs in the first 5 years. According to the report, the expenditure is even higher in the initial years after the birth of the child. On an average, around Rs 26 lakh is spent every year on raising a child in the first five years. The main reason for this is the expenditure on day care or other services for the care of the child. After this, during the age group of 6 to 18 years, the average annual expenditure reduces to about Rs 10.7 lakh. Even during this period, expenses related to food, housing, transportation and health remain. ————————- Also read this news… Indians left behind in visiting Nepal, America number-1: Most number of tourists arrived in October, 30% decline in the number of Indians.
