Actor Aaishvary Thackeray, the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, recently fell victim to an online cyber fraud where ₹19,638 was stolen from his bank account.

On October 30, 2026, around 1:30 AM, Aaishvary (30) received a text notification stating that ₹307.82 had been debited from his Axis Bank savings account. Over the next ten minutes, a total of six unauthorized transactions took place, including a major debit of ₹15,511.98.

Notably, the fraud occurred without him clicking on any suspicious links, answering unknown calls, or sharing any One-Time Passwords (OTPs).

The initial investigation by the police revealed that the money was siphoned through foreign online platforms, including international servers tied to Papa John’s and Jollibee.

Aaishvary, who lives in Andheri with his mother Smita Thackeray, lodged a formal complaint. The Oshiwara police registered an First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified fraudsters under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The Mumbai Cyber Cell is actively tracking the digital footprints and IP addresses of the transactions.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CYBER FRAUDSTERS

Protecting yourself from advanced cyber fraud requires moving beyond just hiding your One-Time Passwords (OTPs). Modern fraudsters frequently execute “card-not-present” attacks using international servers to bypass India’s mandatory two-factor authentication. To secure your funds, you should immediately open your mobile banking app to disable international transactions and lower your daily online spending limits. Keeping your credit or debit cards locked or turned “off” within the banking app when not in use provides an excellent layer of defense against unexpected overseas charges.

Beyond card security, you must protect your digital identity and devices from remote access exploitation. Never download screen-sharing apps like AnyDesk or TeamViewer at the request of an unknown caller, and avoid clicking on urgent text links that prompt you to download malicious “APK” files. When looking for customer service assistance, never use numbers found via open search engine results; always pull helpline details directly from a brand’s verified app or your physical credit card statement. Finally, use the official government portals to freeze your Aadhaar biometrics and audit the SIM cards registered to your name to prevent identity cloning. If you ever detect unauthorized transactions, call the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 within the first hour to freeze the siphoned funds.
