Even after nine months have passed since the Election Commission’s order, the new constitutions of the 68 recognized political parties of the country have not been revealed.

According to the website of the Commission, out of total 73 recognized parties, only 5 parties have registered their new rules on record after the instructions of 8 December 2025.

These 5 parties include AIMIM, Biju Janata Dal, Revolutionary Goans Party, Voice of the People Party and Bharat Adivasi Party.

The Election Commission had given this order on December 8, 2025 so that transparency can be brought in the functioning of political parties and all their amendments to the Constitution can be updated publicly on the Commission’s website.

Constitution of 6 national parties is also not updated

Bhaskar matched the Commission’s August 2025 list of 6 national and 67 state recognized parties with the Constitution and public records related to organizational elections. The investigation also revealed differences in the duration of organizational elections along with updating of documents.

The constitutions of none of the BJP, Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Marxist Communist Party and National People’s Party appear in the public records with the new date after the directive. The date of July 2022 is mentioned on the constitution of the Nationalist Congress Party and May 2022 on the document of Shiv Sena.

Some parties made changes before instructions

The constitution of Jannayak Janata Party was uploaded on 24 November 2025. Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s document was filed on 15 September, Bahujan Samaj Party’s 1 September and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Janasena Party’s documents were filed on 31 July 2025. Documents of Samajwadi Party and YSR Congress also appeared on the website in June 2025.
