Movie- Jhaad Phoonk Cast: Yashpal Sharma, Padmini Kolhapure, Sumbul Tauqeer Khan, Harsh Rajput, Aparam Singh Director: Rajan Ramgopal Verma Producer: Shailesh Parihar Duration: 1 hr 53 min Rating: 3/5 Sometimes fear is not hidden in a dark room, but in those questions to which we do not have answers. When life, relationships and the fear of the unknown come to a halt, it is not easy to reach the truth. The story of the film ‘Jhad Phoonk’ also progresses amidst such mysteries, where every new question brings with itself an unknown fear. Story of the film: Aastha (Sumbul Tauqeer Khan) is pregnant and is traveling from Uttarakhand to Delhi with Rajveer (Harsh Rajput). Aastha wants Rajveer to marry her, but after an accident on the way, Rajveer suddenly disappears. After this, Aastha reaches such circumstances, where she meets Mohan Thakur (Yashpal Sharma) and Kamini Thakur (Padmini Kolhapure). A ruined cellar, the mysterious atmosphere there and incidents related to Manjari start increasing his fear. Gradually, secrets related to this place come to light and Aastha goes through experiences that change everything for her. What is behind these incidents is an important part of the suspense of the film. Direction, story and screenplay of the film: The concept of director Rajan Ram Gopal Varma’s film is interesting. A pregnant woman, suddenly missing lover and mysterious basement atmosphere could have made the story exciting. Suspense is created in the preclimax of the film and the story succeeds in keeping the audience engaged for some time. However, the pace of the film slows down at many places. Some scenes seem longer than necessary, while the connection between many incidents is not clearly visible. The question with which the story begins begins to lose its importance in the middle. This reduces the impact of the main story and may also weaken the curiosity of the audience. The aspect of faith and superstition has been added to horror, but the scenes that create fear do not leave an impact every time. At many places, an attempt is seen to create an atmosphere, but it fails to translate into effective fear. Had the screenplay been tighter and unnecessary scenes had been shortened, the impact of the film could have been better. To fully realize the potential present in the story on screen, there is a need for further improvement in direction and technical presentation. Yashpal Sharma, acting in the film, brings seriousness to the character with his experience. Padmini Kolhapure also acts as per the mysterious atmosphere. Sumbul Tauqeer Khan tries to bring Aastha’s fear and troubles on screen, while Harsh Rajput’s role is important in the initial part of the story. However, due to weak writing, the actors do not get a chance to leave a complete impression through their characters. Music in the film: There is only one song in the film, Beateasha, which sounds good and matches with the atmosphere of the story. Background music could have been a little more impactful. Final Verdict on the film: ‘Jhaad Phoonk’ has scope to create an interesting concept and mystery. The story creates excitement in the preclimax, but the slow pace, long scenes and weak screenplay limit its impact. The film raises some questions, but is not completely successful in maintaining continuous thrill through them. Viewers who like horror can watch it once.
