Former Air Force officer KM Tausif Souri, who recorded the video of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country, has died. His body was found in Dhaka’s Turag river on Thursday. 28-year-old Flight Lieutenant Sauri was missing since October 27. The family has alleged that Haseena was harassed and murdered for sharing the video. According to officials, the real cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report comes. At present it is not clear whether he died due to drowning, committed suicide or was murdered. Identification was done from the iPhone found in his pocket. According to Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, the officer’s body was found near Rajabari Ghat. Sauri was wearing white pants and black shirt. Initially the police could not identify the body. Identification was done with the help of the iPhone found in his pocket. A wrist watch was also found along with the body. After this the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for postmortem. Sister said – Detectives were chasing brother. After Souri’s death, his cousin sister Moshfeka Jahan accused him of murder in a Facebook post. In a post written in Bengali, he said, my brother was murdered. What was his fault? Sharing the video of Haseena’s escape? Jahan claimed that it was not Souri but his colleague who had recorded the video. The sister alleged that even after being retired from the Air Force, Souri continued to be mentally tortured. He claimed that spies were constantly following him. According to her cousin sister, Souri was well and was called out of the house before her death. Why was Souri removed from the Air Force? Questions are also being raised as to why Souri was removed from the Air Force. According to Bangladeshi website ‘Jago News’, the Military Public Relations Directorate had issued a statement on his departure from service on 4 August 2025. It was said that Sauri was retired as per the rules and there were no allegations against him. However, some reports and social media have linked her departure to the controversy surrounding the video of Hasina leaving the country. His cousin sister also alleges that Souri was harassed before and after leaving the Air Force. According to ‘Jago News’, Uttara Police Station officer Shaheenur Zaman said on Thursday that till then no complaint had been registered in the police station regarding Souri’s death. At present, the postmortem report is awaited. The investigation will reveal how Sauri died.
