Scottie Scheffler’s 10-year-old scoring record at the East Lake Cup is gone, and two college golfers broke it on the same day. Auburn sophomore Logan Reilly and Oklahoma State senior Preston Stout each shot a 7-under 65 on Monday, October 26, to share the individual title in Atlanta. Scheffler had set the previous mark with a 6-under 66 while playing for the University of Texas in 2016. Reilly finished his round first, but Stout matched him about 30 minutes later with a birdie on the 18th hole. Their scores also helped set up a men’s team final between Auburn and Oklahoma State after Tuesday’s semifinals.
Logan Reilly And Preston Stout Break Scottie Scheffler’s East Lake Record
Reilly made eight birdies and one bogey in his career-best round. His final hole nearly cost him the outright lead after a poor drive left him in the pine straw. Rather than play safe, he followed his coaches’ advice and went for the green.
“I got over it and knew that was the play for sure, and I agreed with my coaches and took it on,” Reilly said.
Stout knew Reilly was playing well because he was paired with Auburn’s Josiah Gilbert.
“He was telling me, ‘Oh Logan, made another birdie another birdie.’ Great, I don’t really want to know but thanks for telling me,” Stout joked. “But I did ask Josiah on 18 if [Logan] finished at 6 or 7 and he told me and that helped feed me down the stretch.”
“It was nice to feel some nerves,” Stout said. “It’s always fun being under pressure. That’s why we practice. I love getting in those moments and having putts like that.”
Auburn and Oklahoma State Set Up East Lake Cup Final
Auburn finished stroke play at 13-under 275, two shots ahead of Oklahoma State at 11-under 277. On Tuesday, Auburn beat Arizona 4-1, while Oklahoma State defeated UCLA 3-2. The two teams will meet in Wednesday’s men’s final.
Scheffler’s old mark had stood since his 2016 East Lake Cup appearance for Texas. He has since become the world’s top-ranked golfer and won the 2026 TOUR Championship at the same course.
On the women’s side, Arkansas senior María José Marín won the individual title with a 5-under 67, two shots ahead of USC’s Jasmine Koo. Asked about her final putt, Marín said, “I asked my coach where we were standing because I had no idea what was happening,” before explaining that she focused on the hole rather than the leaderboard.
“My mind gets to a point where the only thing that matters is the hole. That was what was going through my head on that last putt.”
The East Lake Cup concludes Wednesday with the team finals and consolation matches.
