Mohammad Yunus was sworn in as Chief Advisor of Bangladesh on 8 August.
Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Mohammad Yunus said in an interview to news agency PTI that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should not make political statements while staying in India.
Yunus said that he will demand Hasina’s extradition but until then Hasina should remain silent so that both the countries do not have to face problems.
Yunus said that we have made our stand clear to India. If India wants to keep Sheikh Hasina with them till the demand for extradition is made, then Hasina will have to keep quiet.
Hasina has been staying in India for the past one month. She had to resign from the post of Prime Minister on 5 August following violent protests that began after 5 June.

After resigning, Hasina came to India. After this, an interim government was formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
‘We will bring Haseena back and prosecute her’
Yunus said that Sheikh Hasina should be brought back and prosecuted. He also said that no one is comfortable with Hasina staying in India.
Yunus said that if Hasina had remained silent, we would have forgotten it, people would have also forgotten it because she would have been in her own world. But she is making statements sitting in India, giving instructions, nobody likes this.
In fact, Yunus was referring to Sheikh Hasina’s statement on August 13 in which she had called the killings and violence in Bangladesh last month a terrorist incident and demanded the identification and investigation of those involved in them. Hasina had also demanded justice for herself and asked for punishment of the criminals.
Speaking to PTI, Yunus said such statements are not good for both India and Bangladesh.

Yunus said that Hasina has been given asylum in India, and from there she is running a campaign against us.
‘Without Hasina, Afghanistan will not become Bangladesh’
In the interview, Yunus said that Bangladesh values its strong relations with India. But India will have to move beyond the notion that it views parties other than Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League as Islamic parties.
According to Yunus, it is not the case that Bangladesh will become Afghanistan under the government of any party other than Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party.
Yunus said about Hasina leaving the country that she did not flee for any ordinary reason. She had to flee the country after the public’s rebellion and anger. Yunus said that the government will definitely provide justice to those who have been tortured.

Yunus insisted that Hasina must face trial. Without this, people will not get peace.
‘Attacks on minorities are just an excuse’
Regarding the attacks on minorities and especially Hindus during the violence in Bangladesh, Yunus said that ‘this is just an excuse. An attempt is being made to make the attacks on minorities look big.’
The violence that erupted after Hasina left the country saw incidents of violence against Hindus, vandalism of shops and properties, and attacks on temples.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed concern in his speech from the Red Fort on August 15 about the attacks on minorities and especially Hindus in Bangladesh.
After this, Mohammad Yunus spoke to PM Modi on the phone. In which he assured the safety of Hindus living in Bangladesh.
