A 62-year-old coach died in a fight between players over water in Sri Lanka. The incident took place on August 8, but its information came on Thursday.
According to reports, during a match there was a fight between two players over water. During this, coach Sumith Fernando got injured.
Sumith was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment on August 11. Coach Fernando’s funeral took place on 13 August.
Fernando used to coach former Sri Lankan cricket captain Kusal Mendis during his school days. The police have arrested a 17-year-old school player in this case.
Sumith Fernando was Kusal Mendis’s school coach. Kusal is the ODI captain of Sri Lanka.
The court sent the accused to child custody
The police presented the accused in the Colombo court. The court has ordered to keep the accused under juvenile supervision till August 17.
Sumith was also club curator
Sumith was a former coach of Prince of Wales College in Moratuwa on the outskirts of Colombo. He was also the curator of the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club. This club plays first class cricket in Sri Lanka.
