An Indian national was among two people killed in a drone attack on the King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s Dammam on Wednesday, October 21, said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.

Two Indian nationals were among the eight injured in the attack.

The embassy said it was in touch with the concerned authorities and was ascertaining further details of the incident.

Writing on X, it said, “Saudi authorities have informed that one Indian national was among two people who unfortunately lost their lives in the attack on Dammam airport yesterday night and two Indian nationals were injured. We are ascertaining further details and contacting the affected families.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and we wish speedy recovery of the injured”, the embassy wrote.

It was yet to establish the identity of the deceased.

The drone attack came as the Iran-allied Houthis continued striking key infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

Attack On Shaybah Oilfield

On Wednesday morning, two people were killed and two injured after being struck by shrapnel from an intercepted drone near Saudi Arabia’s Shaybah oilfield.

According to the Saudi ministry of energy, air defences intercepted a drone as it attempted to target one of the facilities at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah field.

“Air defences thwarted an attempt to target the Shaybah field, with two deaths and two injuries among residents resulting from shrapnel falling after the interception,” the ministry said in a statement.

Shaybah is a major oilfield run by state-owned Saudi Aramco in the Rub’ al-Khali desert in southeastern Saudi Arabia. It forms a significant part of the kingdom’s oil production infrastructure.

The incident was reported as the Houthis escalated their campaign against Riyadh, targeting airports, energy facilities and key infrastructure.
