Kenneth Walker III has given the Kansas City Chiefs a new weapon on the ground, but Russell Wilson believes their offense could become even harder to stop with another powerful addition. The former NFL quarterback has urged Kansas City to consider a trade for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson before the November 10 deadline. With Patrick Mahomes leading an unbeaten team, the suggestion makes sense for a side chasing another Super Bowl title. However, the move would depend on whether the Jets are willing to part with their star receiver.
Russell Wilson picks Chiefs’ trade target
Speaking on CBS alongside Kyle Long, Russell Wilson explained why Garrett Wilson could fit Andy Reid’s offense. He pointed to the threat Kenneth Walker III created in the running game and how it could give Mahomes more chances to attack defenses through the air.
“Guess what that does? That play action opens up, right? What Mahomes does arguably better than anybody in the world is throw the ball down the field,” Wilson said.
The former quarterback then named the receiver he wanted Kansas City to pursue. “If I’m thinking about this, who would I go get? I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson,” he said, suggesting the Jets’ struggles could open the door to a deal.
Wilson also praised the 26-year-old’s ability to learn quickly and run routes, saying he would be a good fit for Reid’s system. “They haven’t had a receiver like him,” he added.
Kansas City had already shown interest in strengthening its receiving options with Tyreek Hill among the names linked to the team. Wilson would offer a different option for an offense that could use another reliable downfield threat alongside its established playmakers. He’s fast and dependable and can stretch the field.
Garrett Wilson’s numbers strengthen the trade case
The Jets receiver had made a strong start to the 2026 season despite New York’s 2-4 record entering Week 7.
According to ClutchPoints, he recorded 35 receptions for 418 yards and three touchdowns through six games. Those numbers put him on pace to cross 1,000 receiving yards again.
Garrett Wilson had also recorded three straight 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career before injuries limited him to seven games in 2025. He signed a four-year, $130 million contract extension with New York during that offseason, making any potential trade a significant decision for the franchise.
Kyle Long also backed the idea of giving the receiver a chance to compete for a championship. He argued that Wilson deserved to play for a winning team, while Russell Wilson suggested Kansas City could offer him that opportunity.
