Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar etched his name in the record books on Monday, becoming only the second player to score a quadruple century in Indian domestic cricket. The left-hander reached the milestone against Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy Plate Division match at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.

Sutar joined an exclusive club of batters to have crossed the 400-run mark in a single innings, alongside legends such as Brian Lara and Don Bradman. Before him, Maharashtra’s BB Nimbalkar had scored an unbeaten 443 against Kathiawar in Pune in 1948.
The landmark knock came after an impressive start to his Ranji Trophy career. In his debut appearance, Sutar had narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 99 after being run out. Before joining Mizoram, he represented Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Sutar’s marathon innings featured 46 fours and seven sixes. He was on 231 when Lalrempuia arrived at the crease as the final batter, and continued to pile on the runs before Mizoram declared at 581 for nine. Sutar remained unbeaten on 400 off 517 deliveries.
