US President Donald Trump on Friday appointed conservative commentator and lawyer Katie Zacharia as the new White House press secretary, praising her as a loyal supporter of his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
Announcing the decision on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Zacharia had supported him from the beginning and expressed confidence in her ability to handle the high-profile role.
“She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,” Trump wrote. “She is, likewise, a devoted fan and member of MAGA!”
Zacharia will replace Karoline Leavitt, who left the position in August following the birth of her second child. Trump praised Leavitt for her work, saying she had done a “fantastic job” as press secretary.
Who Is Katie Zacharia?
Zacharia currently serves as a senior communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, which operates the president’s social media platform, Truth Social. Trump described her work at the company as “outstanding”.
A lawyer and graduate of Pepperdine University and its Caruso School of Law, Zacharia is also a frequent commentator on conservative television networks, including Fox News and Newsmax.
She previously served as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees US immigration enforcement. She joined the department earlier this year under then-secretary Kristi Noem but left after around two months, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Zacharia has also worked with Fix California, a conservative advocacy group founded by Richard Grenell, a longtime Trump ally.
Leavitt Praised As She Exits Role
Trump said Zacharia had assisted his presidential campaigns in key swing states and expressed confidence that she would work well with the media, the American public and his administration.
“I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the Media, the American People, and my Administration,” he wrote.
The press secretary is one of the White House’s most visible roles, involving regular briefings with journalists, responses to questions about government policy and communicating the president’s position on key issues.
Leavitt took up the post when Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, becoming the youngest person to hold the position at the age of 27.
Fox News has announced that Leavitt will join the network as an on-air contributor from November.
