Javed Akhtar has termed the message viral on social media as completely fake, in which it was claimed that he criticized the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijit Deepke. He rejected this claim on social media platform X. Javed Akhtar raised the question as to why his name was being used to criticize Abhijeet Deepke and CJP. He wrote on Let us tell you that in the fake message that went viral on social media, Javed Akhtar had criticized Abhijeet Deepke and CJP. In this, Deepke was described as a puppet of Arvind Kejriwal. Javed Akhtar and Kanchan Gupta clash on social media On Monday, Javed Akhtar and Kanchan Gupta, senior advisor in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, clashed on social media over a statement by Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of All India Imam Association. Actually, Maulana Sajid Rashidi had given a statement regarding increasing the population. He had said that it is normal for Muslim families to have more than five children and six children is the last number for them. He also raised questions on Hindu families producing fewer children. Rashidi had said, “At our place, everyone’s number is above five. Six is absolutely the last number. If not the least, then there are also six, eight, ten and eleven-twelve.” Pointing towards the Hindus he said, “At least come on ten.” Kanchan Gupta targeted Javed Akhtar. While sharing the news of Rashidi’s statement, Kanchan Gupta raised questions on Javed Akhtar. He wrote that if a Hindu had said that Muslims have 11-12 children, Naseeruddin Shah would have been enraged, Javed Akhtar would have felt very bad and the LeLi gang would have taken out a march on the streets raising slogans of ‘Sar Tan Se Juda…’. He said that Maulana Rashidi has said this. Kanchan Gupta further wrote that she told Javed Akhtar what her co-religionist Maulana Sajid Rashidi proudly displays. According to him, this was enough to label him a communal and fundamentalist. Javed Akhtar responded to Kanchan Gupta. Javed Akhtar said on Kanchan Gupta’s allegations that despite being a staunch communal and narrow-minded person, he trusted the statement of a Maulana who seems to be communal and narrow-minded like him. He said that both are the same kind of people. Akhtar suggested that government census data be trusted instead of trusting one’s own peer from another community. He said that these figures may not be useful in efforts to spread hatred. There was also a debate on Hindu religion. In response to Kanchan Gupta’s allegations, Javed Akhtar wrote, “You are like an ugly stain on the white sheet of Hinduism.” He talked about reading Vivekananda, Gandhi and Radhakrishnan and said that they cannot be associated with Muslim fundamentalists. On this, Kanchan Gupta said that Hindu religion is not a “white sheet” i.e. a shroud. He described it as a vibrant, multicolored and life-giving religion. He said that Javed Akhtar’s analogies and examples reveal a lot. After this Javed Akhtar said that Maulana does not belong to his religion, because he does not believe in any religion. He told Kanchan Gupta, “Mr. Kanchan Gupta, you have messed with the wrong man. I will not let you get away with your lies. Try it.” Kanchan Gupta responded by calling it “marginalizing as per convenience”. He said that Javed Akhtar’s views on Islam should not be compared with his views on Hinduism, which is his religion. After this, Javed Akhtar replied, “You are an ugly stain on the white sheet of Hinduism. Read Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Radhakrishnan, then you will understand what the religion which narrow-minded people like you are defaming really is. Try your best, but you cannot associate me with Muslim fundamentalists. Mumbai Police itself gave me security thrice for my protection from fundamentalist Mullahs.” I don’t think you will understand this. You are so small minded that I feel sorry for you.”
