GIFT Nifty Today, September 30: Indian stock markets are likely to open on a flat note on Wednesday, September 30, tracking gains in Asian equities and a sharp correction in crude oil prices. The easing of oil prices could provide some relief to domestic equities after recent sessions of selling pressure.

The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50’s performance, was trading at 22,819.5, down 10.5 points or 0.05%, as of 7:58 am. The marginal decline suggests a largely flat start, even as the broader global market environment improves.

In the commodity market, WTI crude has slipped to the $89-$90-per-barrel range, while Brent crude has retreated towards $95-$96, easing concerns over India’s import bill, inflation and macroeconomic stability.

“Indian equities are likely to find some relief at the open as a sharp pullback in crude oil prices eases one of the key pressures that has weighed on domestic markets in recent sessions,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, a Sebi-registered online trading and wealth-tech firm.

However, uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran conflict and the outlook for regional energy supplies continue to pose risks. Signs of recovering crude production and improving supply flows have helped bring prices lower, but any escalation in geopolitical tensions or setback in negotiations could trigger renewed volatility.

Foreign investor selling also remains a key concern for domestic equities. Persistent outflows, coupled with elevated US Treasury yields, could limit the sustainability of any market recovery.

In the previous session on Tuesday, the Nifty closed at 22,716.20, down 64.05 points or 0.28 per cent, while the BSE Sensex ended at 72,529.07, declining 242.65 points or 0.33 per cent.
