SBI has announced that it will not charge for withdrawing cash from its ATM from 28th to 30th September. During this period, branches will remain closed due to the strike of bank employees. Bank employees will protest demanding 5-day working.
90% bank employees join the strike, work will be affected
7 big bank unions of the country will participate in the strike, to which more than 90% of the bank employees are associated. These include AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF and INBOC.
The unions say that their protests will continue until the government sets a firm date for implementing 5-day working a week.
Banks will open on Sunday 27th September
Due to the 3-day strike starting from September 28, work in the branches will be completely closed. During this period, so that the general public does not face any problem in withdrawal of money, check clearance and other important works, the Finance Ministry has ordered all public sector and regional rural banks to remain open on Sunday, September 27.
Government’s refusal on 5-day working in banks
Media reports just before the bank employees’ strike claimed that the government had never promised 5-day working for banks and this issue was not discussed even during salary revision talks.
A Finance Ministry source said that this demand was raised unilaterally by the employee unions and no consensus was reached between the two parties.
Government and unions also face to face regarding PLI scheme
Apart from working 5 days a week, there is also a controversy regarding the rules of bonus (PLI). The government has implemented a new rule of bonus for senior officers like Scale-4 and above officers.
Under this, officers doing good work can get incentive or bonus equal to 365 days’ basic salary. Bank unions are also opposing this.
