India’s Chef-de-Mission Sahdev Yadav acknowledged initial accommodation and transport problems at the Asian Games but said that all concerns have now been resolved.

India’s Chef-de-Mission to the Asian Games, Sahdev Yadav, has said that there were issues regarding accommodation initially, but all of them have now been solved, adding that the Indian contingent had extra room bookings and has made their own car arrangements.
The container rooms have drawn criticism from the South Korean contingent over their cramped size, while some Asian Cricket Council members have also raised concerns about the quality of the accommodation.
The remaining athletes and officials, who make up the majority of the participants, will be accommodated in commercial hotels near competition venues across Aichi Prefecture, with some staying in Tokyo as well, where events such as swimming will be held.
“Everyone has accommodation and there is no problem from our side. There were some issues initially, which is why we booked an additional hotel. Our team is going directly to the airport,” Yadav said while speaking to the media.
“The accreditation process is quite lengthy and is being done on the cruise, so it’s taking a lot of time. There are also some transportation issues, but we have made our own arrangements for cars and hotels for our players,” Yadav added.
Organisers have opted not to build a traditional athletes’ village, instead housing participants in container-style accommodation, hotels and a docked cruise ship.
The Olympic Council of Asia said on Friday that all athletes and officials registered by the entry deadline had been provided Games-appropriate accommodation, while acknowledging the logistical challenges.
“There has been some mismanagement, but this is such a big event that anything can happen. However, we don’t want to focus on who is at fault. Our priority is to look after our children, resolve all their problems and ensure they are comfortable and well taken care of,” Yadav said.
“We want them to focus on their performance, win medals and then relax. That is our wish, and that is what we are working towards,” Yadav added.
