The Election Commission may give an interim order on the election symbol of Trinamool Congress on Thursday. Both the groups have fielded candidates on the same symbol. According to Election Commission officials, both the groups have fielded their candidates on Nandigram and Rejinagar seats. In 2021, Mamata contested the elections from here against the current Bengal CM Subhendu Adhikari, but lost. After joining BJP, Adhikari has become TMC’s biggest rival. In the 2026 assembly elections, Shubhendu Adhikari contested from Bhawanipur seat along with Nandigram and won both the places. In Bhawanipur he defeated Mamata Banerjee by 15,105 votes. Adhikari got 73,917 votes, while Mamata Banerjee got 58,812 votes. Later the officer retained the Bhawanipur seat and resigned from Nandigram. After this Nandigram seat became vacant. Crisis in the name of organization and party in TMC. The by-election is taking place at a time when TMC is facing organizational crisis after losing power in the assembly elections. The factions of Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee are at loggerheads over the name of the party and the election symbol of two flowers and grass. Both the groups have laid claim to the party’s name, election symbol and funds. The Election Commission held talks with both the parties on Saturday, but no decision has been taken yet.
