Home Minister Amit Shah, in his virtual address on Hindi Day, said that Hindi has no competition with other Indian languages. It is a link between different languages to strengthen communication and national unity. He said that India’s linguistic diversity is not a weakness but the country’s biggest strength. Shah said the BJP-led NDA governments will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in 21 states before 2029. 5 big points of Shah’s speech 1. But when I go to any corner of the country, the language that directly connects me with the common people there is Hindi. 3. Non-Hindi speaking great men also contributed – Shah said – Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s mother tongue was Gujarati, yet he wrote ‘Satyarth Prakash’ in Hindi. Mahatma Gandhi founded the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha in Madras in 1918. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a Bengali speaker, yet he made Hindi the language of communication in the Azad Hind Fauj and gave the slogan ‘Jai Hind’ to the country. 4. Mention of freedom from colonial mentality – The Home Minister said that Prime Minister Modi has called for freedom from the slavery of colonial mentality from the Red Fort. Language plays an important role in achieving this freedom. 5. Change in laws linked to national self-respect – Shah further said that changing Rajpath into Dutta Path was not just a change of name. The criminal laws made by the British were replaced by the Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Defense Code and the Indian Evidence Act.
