Maharashtra FDA conducted a two-day testing campaign across the state.

Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized over 95 tonnes of food items like butter, paneer and khoya and 172 liters of milk during checks across the state in the last two days. Their price is around ₹ 4.45 crore.

According to the FDA, this campaign was launched to provide safe and clean food items before the festival. During this period, all these were investigated in Ahilyanagar, Pune, Nashik and Buldhana.

Authorities raided a cold storage in Ahilyanagar and seized 75,368.8 kg of pasteurized unsalted cooking butter. Its price was around ₹3.95 crore. Officials feared poor quality of the stock and irregularities in labelling. Samples have been sent to labs for testing and the stock has been sealed.

FDA officials in Pune stopped two vehicles carrying adulterated paneer, khoya and curd for sale during the festival season. The festival season starts from September 14 with Ganesh Chaturthi.

FDA raids in Pune, Nashik and Buldhana

  • On September 9 in Pune, the FDA seized 4,627 kg of khoya without source information, worth ₹11.56 lakh, at KB Aggarwal in Peth. Later the entire stock was thrown away.
  • In three operations in Pune, 18,070.5 kg of food items were seized and 69 samples were taken. Their price was ₹ 43.27 lakh.
  • 1,955 kg barfi being brought from Gujarat was seized in Nashik, worth ₹5.58 lakh.
  • During the inspection of milk center in Yerli, Buldhana, many deficiencies related to registration, cleanliness and records were found. 172 liters of milk was confiscated from here and thrown away.
