A dispute has arisen on the border of the two countries regarding the welcome board of the India-Nepal motor bridge built on the Kali river near Dharchula in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Nepal has expressed objection to the name of village ‘Chharchhum’ in Indian territory being written on the board installed on the Nepal side of the bridge. The Nepali side says that the board installed on Nepal’s land should not have the Indian address but the name of the concerned area of Nepal. India has borne the entire expense of this bridge, built at a cost of Rs 32.98 crore, while its other end is in Nepal. After objection, the name has been covered from the Indian side. Since there was no motor bridge to go from Pithoragarh to Nepal, people had to go to Banbasa, about 200 kilometers away. This increased both time and expense. Its construction cost is Rs 32 crore 98 lakh. According to the Indian government, in February 2022, an agreement was signed between India and Nepal to build a motorable bridge on the Mahakali River.
