‘We Must Move From Endless Wars To End Of War’: PM Modi’s Message To Putin On Ukraine

PM Modi’s message for peace comes at a time when the US-Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine conflict continue to pose challenges to global geopolitics and supply chains.

PM Modi also said that national interest remains the “topmost priority” for both India and Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, calling for a shift from “endless war” to the “end of war”.

PM Modi’s message for peace comes at a time when the US-Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine conflict continue to pose challenges to global geopolitics and supply chains.

“We have consistently discussed the issue of Ukraine. When we met previously, you briefed me in detail on all aspects of the matter. As you know, India supports all efforts towards peace and will continue to do so. Every day spent in war sets humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace fills humanity with new hope and enthusiasm. We must move away from endless wars towards an end to the war. This is essential for the well-being of humanity. A peaceful resolution to all issues at the earliest is the call of humanity, and this is India’s message. The land of Gandhi and the land of Buddha share a single message: the path of peace. Today, I look forward to discussing these matters with you,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi also said that national interest remains the “topmost priority” for both India and Russia.

“I am very happy to meet Putin. Last year, Putin’s visit to India was very successful. Economic relations have got more strength… India is hosting the BRICS Summit in a few days, and all Indians are eager to welcome you and your delegation. Your visit will strengthen our bilateral relations and further reinforce dialogue and cooperation within the BRICS framework,” he said.

Putin said trade and economic cooperation between Russia and India was showing positive trends, with bilateral trade turnover increasing by more than 2%.

Relations between Russia and India are strengthening, and this is being facilitated by PM Modi’s personal attention, Putin added.
