Sanjay Dutt was in Thane Central Jail in 1994
The matter is of July 1994. Sanjay Dutt’s interim bail was canceled in the case of illegal weapons possession. After this he was sent to Thane Central Jail. He was kept in the most heavily guarded Anda Barrack of the jail. Dangerous criminals and TADA accused were kept here.
According to Yasir Usman’s book written on Sanjay Dutt, the barrack in which Sanjay Dutt was was about 10×10 feet. Neither sunlight came there nor the outside world was visible. The room had one small bulb, a mattress and a toilet without a flush.
Sanjay later told that the first one and a half months in jail were very difficult. He was not even allowed to meet other prisoners. The loneliness was so great that he spent hours watching ants walk to pass the time.
In this difficult time, his father Sunil Dutt was continuously trying to get bail for his son. His sisters Priya and Namrata also used to go to jail to meet Sanjay. Many times he got a chance to meet his brother from a distance.
At the same time, on Rakshabandhan, the sisters tied Rakhi to him in jail. At that time Sanjay did not have any gift to give. He gave only two rupees worth of tea and breakfast coupons from the jail canteen to his sisters and said, ‘This is what I have at the moment.’
Let us tell you that there were ups and downs in the relationship between Sanjay Dutt and his sisters. Sanjay Dutt married Manyata Dutt in the year 2008. Initially some family members did not accept this relationship easily. There was a distance between Priya and Manyata for some time.
Sanjay’s differences with Priya also came to light regarding his entry into politics. But later relations in the family started improving. The distance reduced after the birth of Sanjay and Manyata’s twins.
In the year 2020, when Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with cancer, his sisters again stood firmly with him. Priya and Namrata supported their brother during treatment.
