Iran-US War News LIVE Updates: The US has stepped up its economic pressure on Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiling a sanctions campaign aimed at cutting off Tehran’s financial lifelines as the war approaches its six-month mark.
Bessent said Washington would expand secondary sanctions and warned countries that continue dealing with Iran that they could “share in the isolation” of Tehran. “Around the globe, our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” he said, calling the campaign “economic asphyxiation” of Iran.
Iran rejected the pressure. Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh predicted “another defeat” for Washington and said Tehran had a “two-year plan” to manage the new sanctions.
Washington has also warned that entities facilitating Iranian money laundering could be removed from the US dollar system.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir travelled to Tehran on Monday and met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials. His visit came after a phone call with Trump last week, as Islamabad seeks to revive diplomatic efforts and help end the conflict.
