Omprakash Lalta Pasi, accused of attacking the umpire during a cricket match in Mumbai’s Borivali area in 1990, has been arrested after 36 years.
Pasi was 18 years old at the time of the incident. Angered by being given a pass out, he attacked the umpire with the bat. The umpire was seriously injured in the attack. After this Pasi fled from the spot.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Pasi. Now 55 year old Pasi was living in Mira Road area of neighboring Thane district.

Police reached the accused through technical investigation
“Pasi was traced through technical investigation and sustained efforts by the Borivali police,” an official said.
According to the police, in 1990 Pasi had gone to Borivali to play a cricket match. The umpire declared him out, due to which he got angry and attacked the umpire with the cricket bat he had.
Did not appear in court, declared criminal
A case was registered in Borivali police station under relevant sections of the now abolished Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Pasi repeatedly did not appear in the court during the hearing of the case. After this he was declared a declared criminal.
Saved by changing address and contact
The officer said, ‘Paasi kept changing his residential address and contact information to avoid arrest. However, investigators continued efforts to locate him by gathering information about his movements and contacts.
After confirming his whereabouts, the police arrested him from Poonam Residency, Mira Road East in Thane district. The officer said that further investigation in the matter is going on.
