Heavy rain lashed Gurugram on Monday, leading to water accumulation on several roads and disrupting traffic movement across the city, with visuals showing commuters and vehicles navigating waterlogged stretches.
The downpour in Gurugram came as several parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed intense rainfall on Monday.
In Delhi, heavy showers triggered waterlogging and traffic snarls, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for heavy rain in several districts and a yellow alert for moderate rainfall in others.
News agency PTI reported that thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph were also expected in parts of the national capital.
Videos from Gurugram showed the impact of the rain on roads and traffic, with water accumulating on stretches and vehicles moving slowly through affected areas.
The situation added to concerns for commuters travelling between Gurugram and Delhi during the working day.
The latest spell comes after Gurugram faced repeated waterlogging problems during heavy monsoon showers earlier this month.
The city had witnessed extensive flooding and traffic disruption during intense rainfall, with civic agencies deploying pumps and dewatering equipment in affected areas.
The problem of water accumulation has also affected key underpasses.
A day earlier, significant rains led to waterlogging across Gurugram and forced the closure of the Medanta underpass after it was flooded.
The incident again highlighted the disruption caused to traffic by heavy showers.
Monday’s rainfall was not restricted to Gurugram.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms were witnessed across multiple parts of Delhi, including South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.
Intense showers in parts of South Delhi and adjoining areas affected traffic and slowed vehicular movement across several parts of the national capital.
The weather agency also warned of further rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Delhi-NCR.
The rain also brought a marked change in the weather across Delhi-NCR, although the continuing showers created significant inconvenience for those travelling through the region.
