Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has said that he has been diagnosed with temporary but treatable absence seizures, which are because of a neurological dysfunction and have resulted in him collapsing twice on the field within the last four days.

Musiala collapsed six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly victory over Heidenheim on Tuesday. He appeared dazed while receiving medical attention before being helped off the field.

The incident came after Musiala collapsed during Saturday’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in Munich. He later took to Instagram to reassure fans and allay concerns over his condition.

“First and foremost, I am doing well! I am especially grateful for all your messages and support. I understand that many of you are worried and today I want to ease those concerns and explain the situation a little,” Musiala wrote.

“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence that are treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the moments that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim,” Musiala said.

He came on for Ismael Saibari in the 61st minute against Heidenheim but was substituted eight minutes later for Cassiano Kiala. He appeared dazed while receiving medical attention and was helped off the field, although Bayern sporting director Max Eberl moved to ease concerns after the game.

“Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said.

Bayern bagged a 4-2 victory over Heidenheim, with Felipe Chávez, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Luis Díaz and Nathaniel Brown finding the net. Musiala had also required medical attention after collapsing during the friendly against RB Leipzig.

Absence seizures are temporary and treatable episodes caused by neurological dysfunction. They can manifest as brief staring spells, sudden confusion, unusual repetitive movements, or momentary loss of awareness. These seizures are often misinterpreted as daydreaming or behavioural issues, especially in children and the elderly. Treatment for seizures can involve medication.
