Balochistan insurgents launched an attack on a passenger bus killing five and injuring others as violent militant activities become more frequent.

At least five passengers were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus came under attack on the Quetta-Kalat road in Mastung district of Balochistan on Wednesday, in what officials described as a major escalation in ongoing violence in the region.
The injured were immediately shifted to Ghaus Bakhsh Hospital in Mastung, where emergency measures were put in place to treat those critically hurt. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be serious.
Following the attack, security forces launched a large-scale operation in the area. Reports from the ground indicate that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) cordoned off the site soon after the attack, leading to an exchange of fire with Pakistani security forces. The firing has reportedly continued for several hours, raising concerns about further casualties and the safety of civilians in the vicinity.
The latest incident comes amid a sharp rise in coordinated attacks by the BLA across Balochistan. Security officials say insurgents have intensified their operations, targeting both military personnel and infrastructure in multiple districts.
Earlier, the BLA’s Fatah Squad carried out an ambush on a military convoy in the Khadkocha and Kand Umrani areas of Mastung district. Initial reports suggested heavy casualties among security personnel, along with significant damage to military vehicles.
In a separate set of attacks, insurgents raided police posts guarding the Mangi Dam project in Ziarat. They also launched strikes in Lasbela district, where several security personnel and police officers were reported killed.
In response to the spike in such attacks, the Pakistan Army has initiated wide-ranging intelligence-based sanitisation operations across affected areas. The campaign, named Operation Shaban, involves coordinated ground and intelligence efforts aimed at flushing out insurgent elements and restoring control in volatile zones.
Authorities have tightened security across key routes in Balochistan, particularly along highways and sensitive installations, as tensions remain high in the aftermath of the Mastung attack.
