An Indian software engineer has been arrested in America for murdering his wife. Police allege that he strangled his wife to death. The next day he sent a photo of his dead body to his girlfriend living in India. After an investigation that lasted for about 9 months, the police arrested the accused. At present he is in custody. The court has kept his bail at 50 lakh dollars (about Rs 48 crore). If proven guilty, he may be sentenced to life imprisonment. The accused has been identified as 30-year-old Avinash Narne. He is a resident of Telangana. He is a software development engineer in America. He was married to 27-year-old Rajita Sabbineni on 5 June 2025. Wife’s dead body found after 5 months of marriage. On October 27, 2025, Avinash called the police and said that his wife was locked in the bathroom and was not opening the door. When the police broke the door, Rajita’s body was found inside. He claimed that he had gone out of the house for about 40 minutes and upon returning found his wife locked in the bathroom. During the investigation, the police analyzed the data of the smart lock and security system of the apartment. This revealed that no one else had entered the flat while Avinash was out. After this, the police rejected the possibility of an outsider committing the murder. The postmortem report revealed that Rajita died due to suffocation due to strangulation. After this, the investigation was taken forward considering the case as murder. Maintained relationship with girlfriend even after marriage. Investigation revealed that Avinash had a love affair with a woman living in India for many years. During this time he had an arranged marriage with Rajita. According to the police, his girlfriend had also attended the wedding. Even after marriage, both remained in constant touch. On the day of the murder, Avinash had talked to his girlfriend at least four times. During interrogation, he also admitted that he had sent the photograph of Rajita’s dead body to him the day after his wife’s death. The wife had complained about bitter drinks several times. During the investigation, the police also found chats between Rajita and Avinash. In these, Rajita had complained several times about the bitter taste of the drink made by her husband. On the day of her death, she had messaged that the smoothie made by her husband tasted like medicine and cough syrup. When the police reached home, Avinash said that his wife was not well, maybe she had fallen in the bathroom after drinking cough syrup. After Rajita’s death, the police kept collecting digital records, call details and other evidence for several months.
