Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the central government, alleging that the question paper of UGC-NET’s sociology exam was being sold for around Rs. 2.5 lakh.
The Congress leader alleged that the BJP-led government continues to turn a blind eye and “sleep soundly” as scams ruin the years of hard work put in by lakhs of students. He further claimed that the government holds “no value for it”.
“The serious allegations that have surfaced regarding last week’s UGC-NET exam are utterly shocking. Just a few weeks after the NEET paper leak, reports are now emerging that a 100-page PDF was circulated right before the UGC-NET exam,” the LoP wrote in a post on X.
Earlier, several students had alleged that there were serious discrepancies in the sociology paper like typographical mistakes and AI-generated questions. The UGC-NET exam is conducted to qualify aspirants for the job of Associate Professor and for the stipend received by Junior Research Fellows (JRF).
The serious allegations that came to light regarding the UGC-NET exam held last week are extremely shocking. Just a few weeks after the NEET paper leak, news is coming that –

Rahul Gandhi also said that the entire nation is aware that expecting any accountability and action from the Prime Minister and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is futile. “Even after the repeated scams in NEET and NET, the Modi government continues to turn a blind eye and sleep soundly, because the years of hard work put in by lakhs of students — who burn the midnight oil — holds no value for them,” he added.
The Congress leader also shared a screenshot of a report that dealt with serious allegations made by student leaders in Rohtak, Haryana. The report mentions a student leader from Rohtak, Deepak Dhankar, alleging that some questions that were taught to some candidates on 28 and 29 June matched exactly with questions asked in the actual paper.
The UGC-NET Sociology paper was held on June 30. UGC-NET is among the several exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which only has one fully permanent employee and 22 officers who are deputed from Central and State governments.
“This PDF pertains to the question paper setting, which is available only with the NTA. Nearly 90 questions in the PDF match those from the actual Sociology question paper,” the Congress leader said.
The scion of the Gandhi dynasty alleged that same question paper was sold in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The same network will also sell question papers for the upcoming exams such as CSIR-NET, HTET (Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test), and ADA (Assistant District Attorney), he alleged.
There was no immediate response to the allegations from the NTA that conducts national-level higher education entrance exams.
Rahul Gandhi said no investigation would be conducted and students would not get justice.
“The only tool for change is our collective voice — the resounding ‘chhatron ki goonj (echo of students) across the country, which will bring about an education revolution in India,” he asserted.
