Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the famous Prambanan temple of Java island during his visit to Indonesia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site more than 1000 years old, dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. There are 240 temples in the complex and there are carvings of Ramayana on the walls. It is considered a symbol of India’s ancient cultural imprint and Indonesia’s ‘Hindu-Java’ heritage. This tour is being considered important from both diplomatic and cultural point of view. PM Modi performed darshan and worship here. India announced that the Indian Archaeological Department will cooperate with the Government of Indonesia in the conservation and restoration of this temple. According to experts, this step is part of India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and ‘Soft Power’. India is now also helping in the reconstruction of other Hindu temples in Southeast Asia, such as Wat Phu in Laos, to revive the shared cultural heritage. Indonesian President Prabowo welcomed Modi warmly and gave him full respect. Analysts say that the intimacy of the two leaders will give new strength to the ancient cultural relations of the two countries.
