Anmol Bishnoi has filed an application to surrender in a special court in Mumbai in the 2024 firing case outside Salman Khan’s house. He has said that he wants to surrender voluntarily to participate in the fair trial and legal process.
Anmol is the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He was deported from America in November last year, after which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him. At present he is lodged in Tihar Jail of Delhi. He was wanted in several cases including the firing outside Salman Khan’s Bandra house.
According to news agency PTI, in the application filed in the special MCOCA court, Anmol said that he is already in legal custody in another case. Therefore cannot appear without court order. He has demanded from the court to issue a production warrant for Tihar Jail, so that he can be produced in the court and the remand process in this case can be completed.
Anmol said in his petition that his appearance in the court will not cause any harm to the prosecution, rather it will speed up the trial and legal process and prevent misuse of the legal process. It has been said in the application that the trial in this case has started and the statements of three witnesses have been recorded in his absence.
Why does Anmol want to surrender, even though he is already in jail?
Anmol is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. He was arrested in a separate NIA case. The case of firing outside Salman’s house is a separate case of Mumbai Police, in which he is only wanted till now.
Unless an accused appears before the court in a specific case, his formal arrest is not recorded in that case.
What is a production warrant?
Since Anmol is in Tihar jail, he cannot go to Mumbai court on his own. For this the court issues a production warrant. This is an order sent from one jail to another jail or court. It means, ‘This prisoner should be produced before us on this date.’
There was firing outside Salman’s house in 2024
On the morning of 14 April 2024, bike-borne assailants opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment in Bandra. During investigation they were identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal.
Vicky Gupta, Sagar Pal, Sonu Kumar Bishnoi, Mohammad Rafiq Chaudhary and Harpal Singh are in judicial custody in this case. At the same time, another accused Anujkumar Thapan had committed suicide in police custody. Lawrence Bishnoi is also wanted in this case.
The balcony of Salman’s apartment was made bulletproof after the firing on 14 April 2024.
Salman gets Y+ category security, 11 soldiers accompany him 24 hours a day
