Ayatollah Khamenei Funeral LIVE: Iran is preparing to bid a final farewell to former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with a six-day funeral programme set to begin on July 4. Ahead of the ceremonies, Iranian state media reported that Khamenei’s coffin was taken to the site where he was killed during an unannounced event.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei will not attend his father’s funeral due to security concerns. According to Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, the current leader’s representative in India, the decision was taken because of Israeli threats and surveillance risks, making public attendance unsafe.
India will also be represented at the funeral ceremonies. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will travel to Iran on July 3 to attend the funeral of the late Iranian leader.
