Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday launched the second phase of the state’s School Chalo Abhiyan, a statewide enrolment drive aimed at ensuring that every eligible child is enrolled in school for the 2026-27 academic session.
As part of the initiative, the state government has released a financial limit of Rs 163.60 lakh to support awareness activities and enrolment campaigns across all development blocks from July 1 to July 15.
According to an official statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, the campaign will focus on identifying out-of-school children, re-enrolling school dropouts and ensuring active participation from local communities so that no child is deprived of education.
Launching the second phase from the CM Model Composite School in Ismailpur village of Saharanpur, Adityanath distributed textbooks, school bags and stationery kits among children beginning the new academic session.
He also felicitated the district’s best-performing headmasters during the event.
The second phase follows the first round of the campaign, which was conducted across Uttar Pradesh from April 1 to April 15.
According to the guidelines issued by Director General of School Education Monica Rani, the primary objective of the campaign is to bring every out-of-school child into the mainstream education system while ensuring that children who have dropped out are readmitted and continue their education.
The state government has instructed all District Basic Education Officers (BSA), District Coordinators under Samagra Shiksha and Block Education Officers to ensure the effective implementation of the campaign at the grassroots level.
As part of the drive, officials will conduct door-to-door visits, village and ward-level surveys and verify local records to identify children who are currently not attending school.
Once identified, these children will be enrolled on a priority basis, while authorities will maintain regular contact with parents to ensure sustained attendance.
Special coordinated efforts will also be made to reconnect children who had earlier dropped out of school.
The government has stressed that the success of the campaign depends on broad public participation.
Accordingly, Gram Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies, School Management Committees (SMCs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, voluntary organisations and elected public representatives will actively participate in the enrolment drive.
The campaign seeks to transform school enrolment into a people’s movement by encouraging every family to send their eligible children to school.
To spread awareness, the state will organise Prabhat Pheris, enrolment rallies, door-to-door outreach programmes, parent meetings, Gram Sabha meetings, school Praveshotsav celebrations, special enrolment camps and several other public awareness activities across districts.
These initiatives are intended to raise awareness about the importance of education and motivate parents to ensure regular school attendance for their children.
RS 163.60 LAKH RELEASED FOR CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
To facilitate the second phase of the campaign, the Uttar Pradesh government has released a financial limit of Rs 163.60 lakh.
According to the official statement, districts will utilise the funds for organising rallies, preparing publicity materials, installing banners, posters and flex boards, conducting community meetings, holding cultural programmes, organising Praveshotsav events and carrying out other approved campaign activities.
The government has directed district authorities to utilise the allocated funds transparently, in accordance with prescribed norms and within the stipulated timeframe, to maximise the impact of the enrolment drive.
The second phase of the School Chalo Abhiyan builds upon several education reforms undertaken by the Yogi Adityanath government, including the NIPUN Bharat Mission, Vidyalaya Kayakalp, Balvatika, teacher capacity enhancement initiatives and measures aimed at improving learning outcomes.
Officials said the campaign is expected to provide fresh momentum to these initiatives while advancing the state’s goal of universal access to quality education.
The programme forms part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader strategy of promoting education alongside development, with the objective of ensuring 100 per cent enrolment and guaranteeing that no child remains outside the school system.
