A 62-year-old specially-abled passenger died after he was allegedly pushed from a moving Mumbai local train following an argument inside the compartment reserved for passengers with disabilities, police said.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon aboard a Churchgate-Borivali local between Mahim and Bandra stations. The man was travelling in the ‘Divyangjan’ coach when a dispute over seating reportedly broke out between him and another passenger.

Argument In Divyangjan Coach Turns Fatal

According to police, the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation inside the coach. During the altercation, the 62-year-old man was allegedly pushed out of the moving train and suffered severe injuries.

He was rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West for emergency treatment at around 2:45 pm. Despite receiving medical attention, he later died from his injuries.

48-Year-Old Detained

Railway Police have detained a 48-year-old man, identified as Amjad Safruddin Shaikh, in connection with the incident.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the passenger’s death.

‘I Was Chasing A Crow’, Accused Tells Police

During questioning, Shaikh reportedly gave police an unusual account of the incident.

According to police, he claimed that a crow had entered the compartment and that he was trying to chase the bird away when he accidentally pushed the man. The victim then fell from the moving train, he allegedly told police.
