Delhi Metro’s Blue Line services were severely disrupted on Tuesday evening after a technical fault, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for almost two hours and causing long queues at several stations.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) shared on X that services have now resumed.
A train came to a halt at Anand Vihar Metro Station, resulting in significant delays across the Blue Line during peak hours due to Overhead Electrification (OHE) issues near Vaishali.

What DMRC Said?
In a statement, DMRC said train services between Anand Vihar and Vaishali section of the Blue Line were affected from 5.20 PM to 6.43 PM due to OHE failure.
“To carry out restoration work, services were halted between Anand Vihar and Vaishali for some time and eventually services were restored at 6:43 pm. Single line operations were also maintained for some time from Yamuna bank to Anand vihar Metro station to maintain connectivity in this section. Regular train services were maintained from Noida Electronic City to Dwarka Sector 21 section,” it said.
Huge Crowds At Metro Stations
Videos and photos shared on social media showed large crowds waiting on platforms and outside stations as train services slowed, leading to extended waiting times for passengers.
Reacting to the disruption, X user Shubham Gupta wrote, “Massive delays have left commuters stranded in huge queues. No matter who is in power, the common man continues to be treated like a third-class citizen. Fix #DelhiMetro services instead of making excuses.”
“Extreme slow service of metro in Delhi right now. Office hour will be effected,” another passenger wrote on X.
A user Kundan said, “No metro has been coming since the last 45 minutes.”

Why Is Blue Line Disruption Significant?
The disruption hit one of the Delhi Metro’s busiest and most heavily used corridors, connecting Dwarka Sector 21 in west Delhi with Noida Electronic City and Vaishali in Uttar Pradesh.
The Blue Line serves thousands of daily commuters travelling between Delhi and Noida, including professionals heading to the IT parks and corporate offices in Noida. The corridor also provides a crucial link to Anand Vihar, one of the National Capital Region’s busiest transport hubs, offering connectivity to the railway station and interstate bus terminal.
As a result, even a brief disruption during office hours can lead to significant delays, overcrowding at stations and widespread inconvenience for commuters across Delhi and the NCR.
