Former Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho has signed a deal with Italy’s Serie C side Ravenna. However, it isn’t known yet whether he will be playing at 46 or in some other role for which the Italian side has signed the legend.
It is all over the front pages in Italy; Ronaldinho’s potential return to football at the age of 46 has ignited excitement across the nation. Reports in Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport, and Tuttosport have amplified the buzz around Ronaldinho, whose name continues to command attention in the transalpine footballing landscape.
Ronaldinho, who represented AC Milan between 2008 and 2011 after he departed from Barcelona, is all set to join Ravenna, a Serie C club, as per Italian media reports.
“New colours, same smile. I cannot wait to dance on the ball again and write a new story alongside Ignazio and the entire Cipriani family. Football has always been a source of joy for me and I want to bring that same spirit to Ravenna,” Ronaldinho said in statements, as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.
In principle, Ronaldinho’s signing is expected to be announced at an event scheduled in Miami on Tuesday, as per Italian media. But the move is said to carry a strong marketing dimension, with reports suggesting Ronaldinho could even take up a shareholder role at the club.
As a result, it remains unclear in what exact capacity Ronaldinho would be involved with Ravenna, or whether he would feature on the field during the season. Ronaldinho last played competitive football on September 26, 2015, in his final appearance for Fluminense.
“Ronaldinho will be at a marketing event with us, but he will not play in Serie C next season. He is 46 years old, so I wish he were still fit to play,” Ravenna vice-president Ariedo Braida said while speaking to Tuttosport.
