UPSC Prelims Result 2026 Out: The Union Public Service Commission has declared the results of the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 on its official website, upsc.gov.in. Candidates who have qualified in the UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 are now eligible to appear for the next stage, the Mains examination.
A total of 13,343 candidates have been declared successful in the Civil Services Mains Examination 2026. This year, the UPSC issued a notification for 1,016 posts under the Civil Services Examination. Approximately 8.19 lakh candidates registered for the exam; however, only about 5 lakh candidates appeared on the examination day, accounting for roughly 67 per cent of the total. According to media reports, based on the preliminary results, around 2.67 per cent of candidates have qualified, while about 97.33 per cent have not. The candidature of these candidates is provisional.
UPSC Prelims Result 2026 Declared: What’s Next?
Candidates who clear the UPSC Prelims 2026 should start preparing for the UPSC Mains without any delay. After qualifying the Prelims, you must fill out the DAF-1 (Detailed Application Form) on the Commission’s website. After clearing the UPSC Mains, you will be required to fill the DAF-2 form. Questions in the UPSC interview are often based on the information provided in these forms.
Prelims qualified candidates will be given a window to submit a fee of Rs 200 for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026, except for fee-exempted candidates, namely Female, PwBD, SC, and ST candidates. During this period, candidates must also submit/update Scribe details, Assistive Device requirements, and opt for Question Paper in large font (for the Main Examination), as well as fill in their Cadre Preference for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026. This window for submission and filling up of details will be available on the Commission’s website from June 19 to 28.
The UPSC selection process is completed in three stages: a preliminary examination, followed by the main examination, and finally, an interview. Clearing the prelims alone is not a guarantee of ultimate success. Candidates must consistently perform well in both the main and interview stages. Statistics show that most candidates who appear for the preliminary examination do not reach the final merit list. It is estimated that approximately 98.5 per cent of candidates who appear for the exam are excluded from the final selection list.
