The US-Iran deal provides for an immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports.

In a significant breakthrough, the United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the ongoing war. The document was signed by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a senior US official told Reuters.
The official also said the details of the agreement would be released within the next 24-48 hours, and technical discussions would be launched later in the week. The deal provides for an immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and lifting of the US blockade on Iran.
Speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Trump said the deal with Iran was “all signed”, and a formal signing ceremony would take place in Geneva, Switzerland on June 19, which will be attended by Vice President JD Vance.
“The deal’s all signed and the Strait is already partially open. They are doing a little hunting for a couple of mines that they’ve already found. But it’s essentially that ships are starting to go out. Now on Friday, it’ll be completely open,” he said.
Trump Says Iran Won’t Have A Nuclear Weapon
“We got along very well with Iran. It’s a different set of leaders. As you know, the first set is gone, the second set is gone, and we found the third set to be very smart, strong, very smart, but we ended up making a deal. I felt badly that we had to go back from the attack for too much, and I thought a third, but we made it before that happened,” he added.
The US president further said the oil is taking its “biggest plunge” after the deal announcement, adding that Iran has fully agreed that it will not possess a nuclear weapon.
“They fully agreed to that with strong policing powers and they won’t have a nuclear weapon, which is what it was all about because they probably would have used it if they had it,” he further said. He further said the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely open” from Friday, adding that the US won’t need much help in keeping the crucial waterway open after the UK and France proposed a joint naval mission.
Trump On Sanctions Relief
Trump also said Iran will only receive sanctions relief if they “do what they’re supposed to do.”
“It’s really a behavioural thing. If they do what they’re supposed to do, that starts taking effect,” he said. Iran said a more expansive agreement would be negotiated during a 60-day ceasefire period, including the nuclear programme and sanctions relief for Iran.
