Apple’s annual event Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 has started at Apple Park. This time many big announcements have been made in the event regarding Siri, iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence.
Most notably, Siri was introduced in a new avatar named ‘Siri AI’, which is more conversational and context-aware than ever before. Siri AI will be able to write emails and messages without changing the app and will also tell the nutritional value of the food by looking at the photo.
This is Siri’s biggest upgrade since its debut on the iPhone in 2011, through which the company is preparing to compete with competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini and Cloud. Know further what new updates Apple has made in iOS 27 at WWDC 2026.

This event is the last for Apple CEO Tim Cook, as he is handing over his responsibility to John Ternes, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, from September 1.
1. Big change in Siri: Now available in new standalone app with Google Gemini
Apple has made its old Siri assistant more advanced in this era of AI. After the new update, Siri will now work with the help of Google Gemini model. The company claims that the new Siri will be more conversational, more capable of understanding visual intelligence and more capable than before. Now Siri can be used as a separate standalone app along with existing apps.

2. Focus on AI privacy: Data will be used only to fulfill requests
Before rolling out AI features, Apple has made its stand clear on privacy. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president, said, “We believe that there can be no compromise with privacy in AI.” They assured that users’ data will be used only to fulfill their requests and that external experts can verify this promise at any time.
3. Apple Intelligence: The phone will understand the context of mail and message during calling.
The company has included many new Apple Intelligence updates in its apps. Now tab management and one-tap password update facility will be available for Safari browser. Apart from this, cross-app context awareness (understanding of one app in another) feature has been provided between the apps.
The Messages app will now get AI-powered reply suggestions, while the Phone app will now be able to extract context from other apps like Mail and Messages during the call itself. Apple said that for these features, they have prepared Apple Foundation Models with the help of Google’s Gemini Models.
4. iOS 27: iPhone 11 and all subsequent models will get support.
Apple has claimed that this will be their biggest software update ever which will support the most number of devices. The company announced that iPhone 11 and all subsequent iPhone models will get the iOS 27 update.
Performance will improve significantly with this new update. According to Apple, new photos will now appear 70% faster, AirDrop transfer speeds will increase 80%, and CPU schedulers have been improved to improve multitasking.

5. Parental Controls: ‘Ask to Browse’ will be the default for children under 13
Keeping children’s screen time and safety in mind, Apple has introduced new tools for parents. Now parents will be able to decide whom their child can call and which apps or websites he can access. On devices for children under 13, ‘Ask to Browse’ (limit website access) and ‘Ask to Buy’ for App Store or in-app purchases will be active by default.

6. AI editing in photo app: Reframe and extend tools will change the look of the photo
To compete with photo editing apps, Apple has brought new AI tools in the Photos app. The new special ‘Reframe’ feature will, with the help of AI, change the perspective (angle) of the photo as if the camera was placed in a different place at the time of taking the photo.
The ‘Extend’ tool will increase the aspect ratio of the image, allowing more objects to be added to the scene. Apart from this, the ‘Cleanup’ tool has also been upgraded, which with the help of generative AI will remove unwanted things from the background of the photo in a more realistic manner.

7. Changes in Liquid Glass Design and Image Playground
For users who did not like last year’s liquid glass design, Apple has given the option to make some changes in it (opt-in rollback). Now users can highlight its elements more or less. Along with this, a new layered approach of liquid glass has been shown inside the apps.
At the same time, the image generation app ‘Image Playground’ has been re-introduced with a performance update. There is a security in this that the pictures made from this app will not be used for training AI.

8. New Features: In-built AI dictation in keyboard and natural language in shortcuts
- Search overhaul: Apple has changed the entire foundation of search for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Stacey Ford, vice president of OS program management, said that now searches in Spotlight, Photos and Mail will be more accurate than before.
- Competition to AI dictation app: The keyboard of iOS 27 will now get a systemwide dictation experience, which will automatically correct spelling, punctuation and capitalization. It will format the text while speaking, removing unnecessary words like ‘ums’ or ‘aa’ (Ahs), like apps like Whisper Flow.
- Easy Shortcuts: To make the Shortcuts app easier, AI prompt support has been provided. Now even non-technical people can assign a task of their choice just by writing (in natural language).
- Menopause support in health apps: Perimenopause and menopause support has now been added to the Apple Health app along with the cycle tracking feature. The company has taken this step in view of the increasing demand in the digital health market.

9. Tim Cook: ‘I believe Apple’s best times are yet to come’
At the end of the keynote, CEO Tim Cook gave his last message saying goodbye to the company. He said, “Over the past few years, you have helped people connect, learn and experience in extraordinary ways. Looking at the incredible capabilities we have introduced today and what is to come, I am confident that Apple’s best times are yet to come. Creating the world’s best products that improve people’s lives has always been our compass. Leading this mission with such a creative and caring team has been the greatest honor of my life.”
