Madhavan also mentioned an advice given by famous film director Mani Ratnam which was very useful in his marital life. Mani Ratnam had told him that when a relationship is going well, one should not test again and again to see how much the partner loves you. Many times relationships get spoiled due to unnecessary testing. Madhavan accepted this advice. When he became a star of Tamil cinema and his female fan following increased, he first announced that he was married. He also used to open the letters of his fans along with Sarita.
