Jaipur anti-encroachment drive: Authorities have put Jaipur under an extensive security blanket, with internet services suspended across large parts of the city and more than 3,000 police personnel deployed, ahead of a major anti-encroachment drive in Malviya Nagar today.
The drive is being carried out by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) as part of a long-pending road-widening project on Nandpuri Road. The project aims to expand a 1.5-km stretch running parallel to the railway line from its current width of around 25-30 feet to the legally recorded width of 80 feet.

As part of the drive, authorities are set to remove five religious structures, including a mosque, temple, satsang hall and shrine, that fall within the road boundary identified in revenue records. Officials said 134 other encroachments along the route were cleared in May, while occupants of the religious structures were given time to voluntarily remove them before the deadline expired.

The affected areas include Galta Gate, Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, Brahmpuri, Nahargarh, Kotwali, Jalupura, Sanjay Circle, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Jaisinghpura Khor, Bani Park, Kanota, Toonga, Andhi, Jamwa Ramgarh, Samod, Raisar, Govindgarh, Chandwaji, Shahpura, Achrol, Viratnagar, Pawta, Pragpura, Manoharpur, Bhabru, Kaladera, Chomu, Harmada, Jhotwara, Kardhani, Vaishali Nagar, Sodala, Shyam Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Jawahar Circle, Sanganer, Pratap Nagar, Muhana, Shivdaspura, Bagru, Dudu, Phagi and Phulera.
Authorities have also made elaborate security arrangements. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city. Twelve companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been deployed, while additional police forces have been brought in from the Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur ranges. Around 1,000 additional Commissionerate personnel have been stationed at sensitive locations across the city.
The administration said the measures are aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing any communal tension during and after the demolition drive. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those found spreading false or provocative content online.
What’s To Be Removed?
Five religious structures- a mosque, a temple, a satsang hall and a shrine- fall within the 80-foot road boundary recorded in revenue documents. Despite the current road measuring just 25–30 feet in width, the JDA says these structures have blocked the widening project for years.
Ahead of the operation, members of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum held a meeting and offered prayers for the protection of the Noorani Mosque, while appealing to authorities to preserve the mosque and an adjoining shrine.
